Tiger Woods Is Truly Awesome

I know that it has become a cliche, but in my lifetime the only person that could come close to Tiger Woods' accomplishments is Michael Jordan. This weekend's US Open is just another part of the legend that is Tiger Woods.

I starting watching the US Open on Saturday evening when Tiger was 5 shots down, because I was putting my daughter to sleep and she has absolutely no interest in watching golf. It also gave me the opportunity to watch a bit of golf so that I could talk with my grandfather about it on Father's Day.

What I saw was nothing short of remarkable. His chip that bounce off the flagpole into the cup will be seen for years to come. Of course, his two eagles with one coming on the 18th were not too shabby either.

I thought that there was no way for him to top it, but today he may very well have done just that. Making birdie on the 18th after struggling so mightily early on and then chipping after a bad drive is the stuff of legends.

I am looking forward to seeing the 18 hole playoff tomorrow. He is as close to a machine as there has ever been in any sport. Thank you, Tiger, for being the great competitor that you are.

Observations of the Laker's Victory over the Celtics Tonight

I, unfortunately, did not get to see most of the first half, but did have the pleasure of watching the second half unfold. I feel like I can be unbiased, since I do not have a hat in the ring, so to speak, since I am not a fan of either team.

First off, congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for making it a series and not just folding up their tents. I thought that they deserved to win, even though they had some lackluster play.

I was very disappointed in Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, especially in the fourth quarter. It seems like they have some vendetta against the Lakers, since they continually lambast them whenever they get the chance. Even with a 6 point edge they kept talking about what the Lakers do wrong. To make it worse they never once commented about Celtic fouls, but on the replay for Kobe Bryant's tap away and then dunk, Van Gundy comments that some might call that a foul.

James Posey needs to be thrown out of the Finals and probably out of the NBA. He is nothing but a thug. I was appalled that neither Van Gundy nor Jackson commented on Posey's play on Kobe's dunk where Posey nudged Kobe's feet (as seen in the picture above) while in the air forcing Kobe to hold on to the rim for fear of injuring himself on the way down. The refs are there to protect the players - they very much failed in this respect.

Paul Pierce should have been given some rest during the game. He was definitely winded at the end and probably would have been more alert about Kobe coming from the back side on the steal, if he had been more rested.

Jordan Farmar needs to learn how to play defense.

Eddie House can flat out shoot. Why this guy cannot get a multi year contract is beyond me.

Kobe Bryant showed a lot of maturity in the fourth quarter. He complained very little and got on other members of the Lakers when they would complain to the refs.

Those are just one guys thoughts on the game. As an NBA basketball fan, I would like to see the Lakers win the next one and then have Game 7 be a close one.
